SAMI’s patent "A method of lowering the horizontal current in metal liquid in the pot" recently wins the Chinese Patent of Excellence of 2013 awarded by State Intellectual Property Office of China.
One design concept of lowering horizontal current through modifying conductive structure of steel collector bar to improve MHD stability is firstly proposed in this patent. The new cathode busbar structure of the variable resistor is developed to reduce 30% horizontal current, and greatly increases the stability of the pot. The heat insulation type pot lining structure is developed to ensure thermal balance of pot under the condition of low voltage, based on which complete technical specification and operation procedure have been prepared. The technology has reached world top level.
After verified in industrial test, a series of energy-saving technologies containing the patent, have been used widely in a great number of Chinese and international aluminum smelters, and brought remarkable economic and social benefits to SAMI.
